Goodbye Flash you have served us well... hello HTML5.

rgeEditor, the ultimate wysiwyg editor and resource manager has just had an upgrade. Over the past few years, the use of Adobe Flash has lessened across the web, to the point now that any websites or tools web tools that require flash are frowned upon. Whether you’re a Flash fan or not, the time has come to embrace other web technologies.

Our Adobe Flash based image editor is being retired in place of a shiny new HTML5 editor. Don’t threat, you can still do all of the image editing you could do before, but now you can do it in a more modern and standards compliant way with some excellent new tools and features.

Below is a table comparing the feature sets for both tools:

*Crop preset sizes are now linked to the configuration settings.
†Rotation is linked to 90 degree increments, you can no longer free rotate.
^Brightness can no longer be adjusted by channel and can be only edited globally.

And the winner is...

As you can see, the new editor wins hands down. You access the image editor the same way as you did before within rgeEditor’s resource manager clicking on the edit icon either within the folder listing view or from within the thumbnail view.

While we were making some changes, we also updated our imageCrop tools. You can now select a custom colour for your canvas, so if you need some extra padding around an image you can scale the image within the canvas and set the background colour to the same colour as the image.
